Your website (allowed domain)

Lock your chatbot to your own website so the embed code can't be used anywhere else.

Every chatbot is tied to one website, called its allowed domain. The widget only loads on that website, so even if someone copies your embed code onto their own site, your chatbot won’t answer there. This page explains how to set the domain, how Liyobot matches it, and what to do if you run more than one website.

Why the allowed domain exists#

Your embed code is a single line of HTML that anyone can see by viewing your page source. Without a lock, someone could paste it onto another website and use up your plan’s messages, or make it look like your business endorses their site. The allowed domain closes that gap: the widget checks which website it’s running on and refuses to work anywhere else.

The allowed domain is required. You can’t save your chatbot’s settings until one is set, and the Get started checklist on your Dashboard marks step 3, Tell it where it runs, as done once it’s in place.

Set or change your allowed domain#

In the dashboardChatbots›Your chatbot›Go live›Your website

You entered a website domain when you created the chatbot, so it’s probably already set. To check it or change it:

  1. Open Your website

Open your chatbot, then in the left menu under Go live, click Your website.

  2. Enter your domain

Type the domain only, for example example.com. The field already shows https:// in front, and Liyobot removes any protocol or page path you paste in, so https://www.example.com/contact becomes www.example.com.

  3. Save changes

Click Save changes. The widget now loads only on the new domain.

Moving to a new domain?
If you’re switching your business to a new web address, update the allowed domain at the same time you launch the new site. Until you do, the widget will refuse to load on the new address.

How matching works#

Liyobot is deliberately forgiving about the parts of an address that commonly vary:

  • www. is ignored. example.com and www.example.com are treated as the same site.
  • Subdomains are allowed automatically. If your domain is example.com, the widget also works on shop.example.com, help.example.com and so on.
  • Any other domain is blocked, including look-alikes and different endings such as .net instead of .com.

Here’s how that plays out for a chatbot whose allowed domain is example.com:

Website the widget is onResultWhy
example.comAllowedExact match
www.example.comAllowedwww. is ignored
shop.example.comAllowedSubdomain of your domain
example.netBlockedA different domain
myexample.comBlockedA different domain that only contains your name

What visitors see on the wrong website#

When the widget is loaded on a website that doesn’t match, it refuses to start and shows the message “This chatbot isn’t allowed on this website.” The chatbot doesn’t answer anything there.

If you see this message on your own site, the domain you saved doesn’t match the address in your browser’s address bar. Compare the two carefully, fix the allowed domain, and reload the page.

Local files and previews
Opening your web page as a file on your computer, or in a preview that has no real web address, won’t work, because there’s no domain to check. Test on your live website or a subdomain of it instead.

Using Liyobot on more than one website#

Each chatbot has exactly one allowed domain. To put a chatbot on a second, separate website, create a second chatbot for it with its own knowledge, settings and embed code. Subdomains of the same website don’t need a separate chatbot.

The number of chatbots you can have depends on your plan: Starter includes 1 website, Growth 2 and Business 3. Enterprise plans are set up to suit you. See Plans and limits for details.
